Director of the Imagination Library of Johnson County

The Imagination Library of Johnson County’s mission is to increase kindergarten readiness rates in Johnson County, Indiana, by providing free books to as many children as possible, with a particular effort to serve low-income families.

As an affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, we put free, high-quality, age-specific books into the hands and hearts of almost 5,000 children every month. These books inspire a love for reading, increase kindergarten readiness, and promote long-term academic success. Our organization has been run entirely by dedicated volunteers up to this point, and we are excited to hire a Director who can help our organization have a positive impact on even more children in the coming years.

The Director’s responsibilities will include facilitating bi-monthly board meetings, plus:

Marketing:

• Managing social media

• Creating a quarterly newsletter

• Maintaining website content

Fundraising:

• Securing financial support, including meeting a minimum yearly fundraising requirement

• Fundraising planning and execution

• Writing grants and submitting grant reports

• Growing the endowment

Donor Relations:

• Attracting corporate funders

• Creating events for donors

• Networking with relevant community and business partners

Data Management:

• Tracking and proposing a yearly budget

• Managing and increasing registrations

• Tracking and analyzing enrollment and donor engagement data

This is a remote position with flexible hours that occasionally include required evenings and weekends for events and board meetings. The ideal candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree, will live in Johnson County, and will be a self-starter and excellent communicator. The Director of the Imagination Library of Johnson County will report to the Board of Directors.

This part-time position will average 20 hours a week with pay at $27 to $34 an hour, comensurate with experience.  This position does not come with retirement or insurance benefits but does include 2 weeks of paid vacation and a fund for professional development.
